great movie but i dnt get what is the relation of van n the dracula?what does the broken finger n the ring implies?what is past of van helsing?

Van Helsing is a Dutch Docter whos daughter was bitten by vampires, and thus he became a vampire hunter, only in this movie he is played by a young man, wich does not fit the original story..

also Van Helsing in the dracula movies is a secondary figure but in this movie he is the main figure.
